ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO
Albuquerque is
the largest city in the beautiful "Land Of Enchantment" of New Mexico and located on historical Route 66. Our city
was founded in 1706 as a Spanish colonial outpost and today our metropolitan population is over 800,000. Although most people
think of Denver as being "The Mile High City", Albuquerque also has that distinction, topping out at 5312
feet above sea level.
Being located in the high desert country of New Mexico our climate is one that is to be envied.
When most people are asked why they moved to Albuquerque, the most common responses are for our beautiful weather or for our
delicious Green Chile. Oh yes, our Green Chile!!! Muy Bueno!!! Our sunsets are spectacular and must be seen. Our
city is rich with the diverse heritages and histories of the Hispanic and Native American cultures.
Just up the
Interstate 25 a short distance are the world famous communities of Santa Fe and Taos, also known for their own unique cultural
appeal. And don’t forget Gallup just two hours west on Interstate 40. There are many, many sites to see and things
to do when you visit our fair city. Sample our "best" New Mexican and Indian food from a wide selection of local
eateries. Yummy, nothing like it!!! You can visit our original Albuquerque Old Town Plaza and shop till you drop with many
wonderful examples of our local art and southwestern jewelry. Perhaps a unique pair of Native American earrings, a Navajo
silver Turquoise bracelet or a Zuni squash blossom necklace. Be sure not to miss the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center for even
more in the way of beautiful art, sterling silver jewelry, exhibits and museums.
If you visit in September by
all means be sure to attend our New Mexico State Fair for lots of fun things to do and to see the finest exhibits of Native
American jewelry and Indian arts. Our one and only International Balloon Festival is a must see in October. People from all
over the world make the special trip to see an unbelieveable array of colorful hot air balloons in hundreds of different shapes
and sizes. To top it all off, be sure to take a ride on the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway which is the longest aerial passenger
tramway in the world. You will ascend to the top of beautiful Sandia Peak at an elevation of 10,380 feet and the view will
be absolutely unforgetable. Whatever you do, please be sure to visit us soon and enjoy our beautiful and unique city of Albuquerque,
New Mexico USA.
